Figuring out what crimes to do in the text-based MMORPG Torn can be tough if you don’t know where to start. Even if you’ve been playing for a while, it can still be confusing if you’re not sure what crimes have the highest success rate. This guide provides recommendations for what natural nerve to do each crime alongside tips.
For those of you that may have seen the acronym NNB but don’t know what it is, it simply means natural nerve bar. This refers to how much nerve you have to spend on doing crimes without any boosts from merits or faction upgrades. You’ll need to know your NNB to have an idea of how much crime experience you have.
Disclaimer: This article is based on Crimes 1.0 and hasn’t been updated yet to include any of the crimes added in 2.0.

Similar to not knowing how far along you are to leveling up, you’ll never know for sure how much crime experience you have either. This is why we put together this guide to give players a general idea of the recommended NNB for each job.
It’s worth mentioning that many crimes in Torn have a varied success rate so you aren’t guaranteed to succeed. Therefore, even if you have the recommended NNB mentioned in each table below, you’ll likely still fail on occasion. The goal is to succeed most of the time. Also, I’ve included two sections, with the first being for personal crimes and the second for organized crimes.
NNB Requirements For Each Torn Crime

This section covers the personal crimes you’ll spend your nerve on without relying on a faction. While every player experiences Torn their own way, these are a great way to hunt merits. Also, you can eventually make okay money from completing them. Just make sure to revert to the previous crime if you’re failing too often.
Crime | Recommended NNB | Notes |
Search For Cash | 10 | The movie theater provides the highest amount of money. |
Sell Copied Media | 10 | Thriller DVDs provide the highest amount of money. |
Shoplift | 15 | Do Clothes Shop -> Jackets for the highest success. |
Pickpocket Someone | 15 – 20 | The recommended order is Kid -> Old Woman -> Businessman. |
Larceny | 20 | Many guides skip Larceny due to the success rate. The Cars crime requires a Hammer. |
Armed Robberies | 20 | The recommended crime is Thorough Robbery. This entire crime category requires a gun. |
Transport Drugs | 25 | Requires the GEN2113 Driving License education. |
Plant a Computer Virus | 25 | Requires a personal computer or laptop. You’ll also need a Virus relevant to the crime. Some players grind the Stealth Virus. |
Assassination | 30 | |
Arson | 30 | The high success rate of Warehouse Arsons leads players to grind it for most of their NNB. Requires the GEN2113 Driving License education. |
Grand Theft Auto | 30 – 35 | Requires a Coat Hanger. |
Pawn Shop | 35 | Low success rate. |
Counterfeiting | 35 | Requires Printing Paper, as well as Blank Tokens or Blank Credit Cards. |
Kidnapping | 35 | Carrying $25k will prevent a jail for the Kid choice, $45k for the Woman, $50k for the Undercover Cop, and $75k for the Mayor. |
Arms Trafficking | 35 | Requires the GEN2113 Driving License education. |
Bombing | 35 | Requires a Stick of Dynamite. |
Hacking | 35 | Requires the CMT2540 Networking education. |
NNB Requirements For Each Torn Organized Crime

This section is specifically for organized crimes that factions can run. They don’t require any nerve but each player will need to be in Torn City without being in jail or the hospital for it to start. Organized crimes are a nice way to get extra crime experience while also supporting your faction.
It’s worth mentioning that other players can carry lower NNB ones. However, the amount of experience a player gets is also based on how much they contribute. So if a low NNB player is in a crime they’re not suited for, they may not benefit as much. But they will still earn experience.
Organized Crime | Recommended NNB | Notes |
Blackmail | Any | Requires 2 players. |
Kidnapping | 20 | Requires 2 players |
Bomb Threat | 25 – 30 | Requires 3 players. |
Planned Robbery | 30 – 40 | Requires 5 players. |
Money Train | 40 – 50 | Requires 6 players. |
Cruise Liner | 40 – 55 | Requires 15 players. |
Plane Hijacking | 55 – 60 | Requires 8 players. |
Political Assassination | 60 | Requires 4 players. |
That’s all there is to this Torn guide on the many different crimes that exist in this MMORPG. As many players say, Torn can be a bit of a marathon rather than a sprint, so it may take a while before you reach your NNB goals. Especially if you’re trying to reach 60.
