Torn – How to Make Money

Torn - How to Make Money Guide

Learning how to make money in the MMORPG Torn can be tough if you’re a new player. However, there are a ton of tricks for new players and experienced ones to take advantage of. Regardless of whether you’ve just registered or have been playing for months, read our guide for tips to make money.

I’ve put together a good variety of money-making strategies. Each section covers a different level of experience with Torn, while the last area focuses more on creative tricks.

How to Make Money in Torn

Making Money as a New Player

Torn - Selling Beer to Make Money

Buy 100 Items Daily in Torn: The best strategy to make money when you’re first starting out is to use the 100-item buying limit daily. Each player can only buy 100 items from the Torn NPCs each day. However, the best item you can buy is Beer from the Bits ‘n’ Bobs shop at $10 each. Try selling them to another player directly so you don’t get mugged.

Even though the Bits ‘n’ Bobs items restock every 15 minutes, you’ll likely have some trouble getting Beer due to how valuable it is. Otherwise, you can try buying other items worth flipping such as Plushies or Lollipops.

Slutting/Selling Losses: By losing to other players for money, you can give them successful defends for merit awards. However, this isn’t a popular way to make money since you’re not using that energy to train. It’s better to focus on getting to level 15 instead since you’ll make more money that way. But, you can advertise selling losses in the Trade chat or on the forum.

Sell Your Bounty Slots: The Torn City Times newspaper has a section for bounties where you may occasionally see a bounty reason as “Bounty Depot”. Since each Torn player is limited to placing 10 bounties simultaneously, some people will buy other players’ slots. With that said, the person you place a bounty on may still retaliate against you, unfortunately.

Torn - Entering Silly Giveaways For Rewards

Giveaways: Taking part in giveaways aren’t a guaranteed way to make money, but who knows, you may get lucky. Players will often hold giveaways in the Fun & Games forum section. Otherwise, if you join an active faction, they may hold giveaways for their members as well.

This can be a fun way to kill time since players will often create giveaways that revolve around community interaction. Such as telling jokes, writing a creative story, finishing a sentence one word at a time, etc.

Spend Real Money on Donator Packs: Even though Torn is a free-to-play game, players can subscribe for perks as well as buy Donator Packs with real money. While I don’t recommend relying on spending real money, some people may prefer to. You can sell Donator Packs to other players directly or via the Item Market. Try not to let other players mug you.

Outside of using these methods to get money, I recommend checking out the other sections too. The next one isn’t that far for new players so you’ll be able to take advantage of it soon. While the final section in this guide has some fun creative tricks you may be able to use as well.

Making Money After Reaching Level 15

Torn - Flying For Money at Travel Agency

Travel For Money: You won’t be able to start flying to other countries in Torn until you reach level 15 first. While there isn’t a whole lot to flying, it is one of the best ways to make money, especially at this level. There are plenty of useful guides for how this works, but here’s a quick rundown. You can fly to other countries to buy a variety of items to sell for more in Torn City.

However, the main items you’ll want to buy are plushies and flowers since they’re typically cheap and other players will buy them. Similar to selling your 100 daily items to a trader, try to find traders in Trade chat or on the forum. By selling directly to dedicated traders, you’re less likely to get mugged immediately afterward.

Participate in Ranked Wars: Faction wars are a great way to make money for players of all levels in Torn. Since the rewards are high for winners and losers, you can make decent money if your faction rewards participation. You won’t get much if you’re inactive the entire time. But, depending on the faction you join, you may make a ton of money.

With that said, some factions may require a lot of activity if they go to war frequently. So make sure you’re prepared for the level of activity that they expect. Otherwise, you may just get hit by enemy players constantly and hurt your faction.

Join a Player Company: If you don’t take a job with one of the NPC businesses, you can join a player’s company instead. Certain companies have valuable items you can buy with job points by simply being in the company. For every star your company has, you’ll get one job point daily. Certain companies have items worth millions like EDVDs or energy drinks.

For players new to Torn, you may not get into a great company right away since your Working Stats are low. These will increase over time if you have a job and if the company director trains you. Unfortunately, you likely won’t get much of a salary unless you have high Working Stats as well.

Experienced Ways to Make Money

Torn - How to Make Money Investing

Earn Interest at the Torn City Bank: If you’ve maxed your Bank Interest merits you can earn a lot of money by investing at the bank. Combining this with longer investment times will also provide higher interest rates. While you do need a lot of money to make it worthwhile, this is one of the safer ways to make it.

Mug Other Players: This can be an extremely profitable strategy if you don’t mind making enemies and potentially getting bounties on you. However, it’s not for everyone since you’ll need the right stats to take out other players. Especially if you want to do it stealthily to prevent them from knowing who you are.

Mugging can be a complicated playstyle in Torn if you want to get the most out of your energy usage. I won’t dive into it in this guide since there is a lot to it. But, you can make a lot if you don’t mind the risk. Whether you’re buy mugging, mugging Poker players, or perhaps going after people in the Cayman Islands.

Bounty Hunting: Instead of selling bounty slots, you can hunt bounties yourself. While anyone can claim a bounty, it takes an experienced player to know if they can win. There are useful clues you can look for to learn more about your enemy. For example, looking at their stats for how many drugs they’ve used, their candy usage, boosters, etc.

On top of that, I recommend using an add-on like TornTools to give you an estimate of where their stats are around. It can be finicky, but it’s great for a quick general range. Also, don’t forget to hospitalize your bounty when you win. Otherwise, you won’t get the reward. If you think you’re going after a tougher target, you may want to bring temporary items like Smoke grenades or Flash Bangs.

Torn City - Bounty Hunting For Money

Be a Mercenary For Factions: This involves joining a faction temporarily to help them with a war. One player can easily make the difference in getting that high-rank war payout. But, it does require you to have high stats to make that impact. Also, you can contribute without joining a faction as well.

Certain factions will pay others directly to keep their inactive members in the hospital. This prevents enemy factions from gaining score by farming that target. However, you may need to be fast if the enemy faction is quick.

Invest in Stocks: Before you can buy stocks in Torn City, you’ll need to spend 25 points on unlocking the Stock Ticker. Investing in stocks can be profitable, but as goes with stocks in real life, they can crash too. In spite of that risk, each stock has a dividend reward every so often. Examples include $50 million every 31 days, 1 Box of Medical Supplies every 7 days, etc.

Play the Item Market: If you like to watch how item prices fluctuate, you may notice trends worth capitalizing on. Fortunately, you can check how the price of an item has changed over time. This can help make a trend easier to notice even though it won’t show the hourly changes. Taking advantage of the market can require a lot of knowledge so it isn’t for everyone.

Not to say you can’t make some quick money doing simpler tricks instead. Such as buying a cheap bazaar item and relisting it so it’s easier for someone to buy. Not everyone wants to click several times or tap around on their phone when normal buys are quicker.

Torn - Selling Revives to Players

Sell Your Revives: If you’ve reached the Brain Surgeon job position, you can permanently revive other players from now on. This can be a fun way to make money without putting yourself in danger. However, it’s an expensive use of energy at 75 per revive unless you’re in a faction with perks.

There are many ways to take advantage of selling revives in Torn City if you’re creative. War has several opportunities such as reviving a faction’s enemies for hits or reviving to not use medical cooldowns. Or you can hop into Trade chat and sell your revives both inside Torn City or abroad.

Crimes & Organized Crimes: Using your Nerve as often as you can is useful to reach late-game crimes that can be a good source of money. However, all player levels can benefit from Organized Crimes since the 2.0 update tweaking how they work. As long as your faction shares the rewards, you can earn decent payouts while also getting experience. For those of you still on the 1.0 crimes, here’s our guide for NNB crime requirements.

Creative Ways to Make Money in Torn

Torn - Advertising For Players in Trade Chat

Design Graphics For Players: This can be a high money-making strategy if you have the skill to design graphics for other players. Take a look at the Graphics forum section to see what prices different users are charging. This can help you figure out what type of work players are looking for as well.

Advertise For Others in Trade Chat: Spend your time writing messages in Trade chat advertising for other players. This can include advertising faction recruiting, traders selling/buying, companies hiring, etc. Not everyone wants to stay glued to their monitor, so this can work well for certain players.

Sell Stat Spies via the Army: Unlike other NPC jobs with permanent perks, the Army General perk requires staying in the position. For those with the General position, you can spend 10 job points to spy on a player’s battle stats. Other players will buy this information, especially for ranked wars.

Lease Properties For Rent: You’ll likely need a lot of money and time in Torn before you can earn much from leasing properties. This is primarily because you’ll only really make money off expensive properties near the top. Everything else tends to be priced extremely low for new players. Also, it’s expensive to buy property upgrades for increased happiness.

Play the Casino at a High Risk: As goes with in real life, the house almost always wins so this isn’t a reliable strategy. However, you can get some merits if you know what games to play and what to do. Such as spinning the Roulette wheel 1,000 times. Otherwise, you can try your luck at Torn’s Russian Roulette for a 50/50 chance. Which some players use for self-hosping.

Get Involved in the Newspaper: The Torn City Times staff often asks for interesting tidbits to put in their articles that they’ll pay for. But, you can also pitch an article to them and get the Journalist merit. The original payout for writing an article was 250 points, but they increased it on March 3, 2025, to 250 points and four Donator Packs.

Keep Your Money Safe in Torn

Torn - Storing Money in Faction Vault

Now that you have some ideas for how to make money in Torn, it’s important to keep your money safe. There are always going to be players looking for an opportunity to mug if you have money to lose. Whether that’s when you’re headed to the Cayman Islands or after winning big at the casino, you have to be careful. Here are some quick tips if you’re still new.

  • If you trust your faction, you may be able to store money in the faction vault. Keep in mind, you can only withdraw if you have permission or someone is online to send it to you. And, there is the risk that someone with permission takes your money.
  • Using the vault upgrade at certain high-end properties to store your money.
  • If you don’t have access to a vault you can buy stocks and sell them, but you’ll have to pay a tiny fee. This also requires unlocking the Stock Ticker with points.
  • Ghost Trading is a trick where you start a fake trade to stash your money. This relies on the other player not canceling it so you can cancel it when you need it.
  • Invest your money in the Torn City bank, or deposit in the Cayman Islands which can be risky.
  • Take advantage of the 15-second window where you can’t be attacked after landing somewhere. This works for arriving outside Torn City and also returning. Results may vary with lag, however.
  • Self-hosping can be a strategy to keep your money safe when handling large trades or bazaar transactions.

While there is a lot to this guide, I wanted to make it in-depth so everyone can learn something new. Otherwise, that’s all there is to this guide on how to make money in Torn. This MMO has a steep learning curve when you’re first getting started. But, even if you’ve been playing for a while, you already know that there is constantly something new to learn.
